So be sure that you say what you mean, and mean what you say, then do what you say! If you want to build the trust and engagement of your team, you will need to hold yourself accountable to the promises you make no matter how small or large. Delivering on what you say regardless of the work environment breeds trust and reliability like nothing else.
As my colleague Scott says, sometimes, as leaders, we have to be bulldozers clearing the road for our staff. We also have to pull down the roller doors and keep out unwanted influences. When your staff trust that you will do what you say and that you say what you mean, it provides the ability for them to exceed your performance expectations. Protect your team and manage up.
When a leader does what they say and means what they say, it takes away a level of concern for employees and allows them to work with a sense of freedom. In the words of our byline, be authentic and courageous.
